Introduction to German (Part 1)
Mondays 18:00 - 20:00
Starts 29 April 2024

10 weeks | April to July
Fees from £150
Tutor: Olia Jantscheva
Live-online taught course

If you prefer a classroom-taught Introduction to German course this is available on Tuesday evenings.

Previous experience: none required

Aimed at complete beginners, this course aims to give you an basic grounding to the everyday language spoken in Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland. It is ideal if you want a taster course in German, or you just want the basics of the language because you are travelling to Germany, Austria or German-speaking Switzerland on holiday or for business.

Focusing mainly on the spoken language, the course aims to equip you with the skills needed for everyday situations in a German-speaking environment. This will include how to introduce yourself and others, going shopping, ordering food and drink, describing your daily life, asking questions and expressing opinions.

Throughout the course the approach is a communicative one, using interaction as a tool to practice and consolidate what you have learned.

By the end of the course, you will be able to cope in a number of practical situations, such as:

  • introducing and giving simple information about oneself or someone else
  • talking about yourself
  • expressing preferences
  • talking about where you and others live
  • ordering food and drinks in a restaurant
  • going shopping
  • meeting up and making appointments.

Subject to sufficient interest, a Part 2 course will be offered in the summer.
