Advanced Business English - Effective Writing
Thursdays 18:00 - 20:00
Starts 2 May 2024

10 weeks | May to July
Fees from £150
Tutor: Gary Cook
Classroom course at South Kensington

The focus of this course is to build the skills and knowledge needed to produce accurate and effective written communication in a full range of situations including formal and informal letters and emails, reports, advertising copy, meeting agendas and minutes of meetings, web pages, CVs and covering letters for job applications, job specifications, instruction sheets and manuals, presentation slides and corporate memos. There will be significant emphasis on three factors:

  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary
  • Style

In addition to writing, each course member will have access to one hour of one-to-one conversation practice will the course tutor on their own chosen topic or situation. Additionally, there will be one hour of small group (no more than 3 people) conversation practice per course member. Each will lead to a written document (not obligatory) which the tutor will provide feedback on.

The grammar, vocabulary and style issues raised in each weekly topic will be of general use in Business English writing and the specific topic, for example graphs, will be in part a vehicle for developing more broadly applicable skills and knowledge.

The course will follow a set text, Marc Roche Business English Writing: Advanced Masterclass. IDM Business and Law. It will not be necessary to buy the text as all relevant materials will be provided.

Please note this course is mainly aimed at non-native speakers of English, however native speakers are welcome to enrol as well.
