Symposium in Memory of Wouter Kallemeijn

A symposium in memory of Wouter Kallemeijn was held at The Francis Crick Institute on May 5th. The event honoured Wouter and celebrated him as the remarkable scientist, colleague, and friend that he was, and reflected on the impact that he had on so many.

The event was attended by members of Wouter’s family, along with friends and colleagues. A programme of scientific presentations covered the vast catalogue of research that Wouter led and contributed to, including talks from; Prof Hermen Overkleeft, Prof Hans Aerts, Assistant Prof Marco van Eijk, Dr Josephine Walton, Dr Robin Carr, Dr Avinash Shenoy and Prof Ed Tate.

Personal reflections were shared by Dr Jack Houghton, Dr Ravi Singh and Dr Elena De Vita. The memorial symposium concluded with a video from Wouter’s partner Johanna and some touching words from Wouter’s mother Addie.

The attendees were grateful for the space to celebrate Wouter’s memory and his work, the latter a series of impressive scientific contributions that will continue to impact research in many groups for years to come.

Wouter Kallemeijn was an outstanding scientist, an inspiring colleague, and a kind, humble and thoughtful friend. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
