A powerful celebration of diversity in STEM took centre stage at the Faculty's Changing the Face of Science 91ÌÒÉ« Symposium.

Held on 5 June 2025 in the Sir Alexander Fleming Building, researchers from underrepresented backgrounds delivered inspiring academic talks, participated in vibrant poster sessions, and competed in a fast-paced lightning thesis contest.

The event also featured a keynote panel 'Changing the Face of Science: How Underrepresented Early Career 91ÌÒÉ«ers Can Thrive in Science', highlighting shared insights and community support.

The event saw the following prizes awarded:

• Alina Yang (Physics) – Best Poster
• Pablo Prieto (Bioengineering) - Winner, Lightning Thesis Competition
• Kimberly Quililan (Infectious Disease) - Runner-Up, Lightning Thesis Competition
• Ying Tu (Life Sciences) - Winner, Staff 91ÌÒÉ« Presentation
• Danai Athina Irakleidi (Life Sciences) - Runner-Up, Staff 91ÌÒÉ« Presentation

The Changing the Face of Science (CFoS) 91ÌÒÉ« Symposium is an annual summer event that showcases researchers from historically underrepresented backgrounds and identities in STEM from across 91ÌÒÉ«, highlighting that scientists at 91ÌÒÉ« are just as diverse as their fields of study.

91ÌÒÉ«ers and students at different stages of their research careers will present on their work. The goal of the symposium is to provide an opportunity to meet, support and forge collaborations with colleagues with identities that are historically underrepresented in STEM.
