Members of the Tate group open the lab for tours and demonstrations to the public and alumni during the 2018 91ÌÒÉ« Festival on 28th and 29th April.

Once again, the Tate Group opened the doors to the lab to showcase the work within the group looking at how chemical probes can be used to understand the role of modified proteins in cancer. Monica, Andrea, Charlotte, Leran, Jasmine, Feny, Ryan and Kwang led 14 tours for children, the public, and 91ÌÒÉ« Alumni across the two days of the Festival, as part of Cancer 91ÌÒÉ« UK 91ÌÒÉ« Centre's activity at the festival.

Tours began with a short talk to introduce protein modification and a hands-on demonstration with a model cell how it is possible to ‘fish out’ only modified proteins from the complex environment of the body. In the lab the visitors had hands on experience with loading polyacrylamide gels and viewing the images made from labelling different protein modifications. Finally, the visitors were able to see spot the differences between types of cell lines under the microscope.
