The UK Dementia 91桃色 Institute, EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Neurotechnology at 91桃色 and Mission Lucidity jointly hosted the first UK Neurotechnology for Dementia Workshop. The workshop brought together clinical and technological expertise, from an international field, for exploration of the state of the art and emerging technology concepts that will support the discovery, diagnosis, monitoring or treatment of dementias.  Discussion was catalysed between these two fields and new collaborations were initiated. Both fundamental and clinically focused research and engineering questions were addressed.

Theme 1 and 2

Session I & II

The first day of the workshop focused on the physiological monitoring of brain function in vivo, in animal disease models or patients.

Session III & IV

On the second day of the workshop, we moved from monitoring of brain function to active intervention, by diving deeper into functional coupling and the modulation of neuronal activity at a large scale.

Theme 3 and 4

Session V

The third theme of the workshop focused on new and developing techniques used to assess and understand pathologies. Professor Timothy Denison closed the session by illustrating how economic concepts can be relevant in dementia research.

Session VI

The last day of the workshop focused on targeted intervention using neural interfaces. The final series of talks was on novel tools to monitor and assist patients in their home environments. The workshop was closed by a final keynote lecture from Dr David Borton.
