Support Separate Greenhouse Gas Reporting by Corporations: Sign-on Letter
We are asking experts in climate science, finance, accounting and related fields to sign onto the letter below in support of corporations reporting disaggregated greenhouse gas emissions. This letter will be shared amongst corporations to encourage voluntary reporting of separate emissions, as well as policy-makers to support regulations requiring separate corporate reporting of greenhouse gas emissions.
Transparent, high-quality emissions data is essential for effective climate action. While COâ‚‚e reporting remains a useful summary metric, reporting greenhouse gases in disaggregated form provides a more accurate understanding of the climate impacts of different emissions. This is particularly important for gases such as methane, which have significantly different warming effects and timelines compared to carbon dioxide.
By supporting this initiative, signatories are helping to promote greater transparency, accountability, and comparability in corporate climate disclosures. Improved emissions reporting can support better decision-making by investors, policymakers, businesses, researchers, and other stakeholders, while enabling companies to develop more targeted and effective decarbonisation strategies.
