In the final part of the talk, we will discuss a landmark result by R.C. Gunning, which provides a criterion for the injectivity of the holonomy map. These ancient Christian traditions have their roots in the monasteries of the desert hermits of the second century. Jesus himself often prayed in times of stillness and solitude. Many of these long established practices are now shared by Christians from Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox Churches. We offer a range of meditations practices including:

silence and stillness

slow reading of scripture (Lectio Divina)

using imagination to encounter scripture (Ignatian Contemplation)

meditation review of the day or a project

Centering prayer

using experience and emotions in prayer

discernment when making changes in life

These practices also have many resonances with the contemporary practice of Mindfulness meditation.‌
/events/207765/weekly-christian-meditation-4/ 207765 2025-01-08T03:36:06+00:00 2026-05-18T13:10:00+01:00 2026-05-18T13:40:00+01:00 2025-01-08T03:36:06+00:00 General 91ɫ Chaplaincy Multi-Faith Centre, 15 Prince's Gardens, South Kensington, SW7 1NA, 15 Prince's Gardens, South Kensington, London, SW7 1NA, United Kingdom /ImageCropToolT4/imageTool/uploaded-images/christian-meditation-2-1086-x-307-1642077206866-x4-ezgifcom-webp-to-jpg-converter_1717097303804_eventpanel2018_x05.jpg /ImageCropToolT4/imageTool/uploaded-images/christian-meditation-2-1086-x-307-1642077206866-x4-ezgifcom-webp-to-jpg-converter_1717097303804_eventpanel2018_x1.jpg /ImageCropToolT4/imageTool/uploaded-images/christian-meditation-2-1086-x-307-1642077206866-x4-ezgifcom-webp-to-jpg-converter_1717097303804_eventpanel2018_x2.jpg christian-meditation Chaplaincy Multi-Faith Centre, 15 Prince's Gardens, South Kensington, SW7 1NA, 15 Prince's Gardens, South Kensington, London Open Interact with success sessions Interact with success (Mon) cycle C

Listen actively, respond appropriately and engage successfully with others in high-stakes contexts, including poster events, demonstrations, assessment Q&A and vivas.

Join us for one or both of the following sessions. While a prescription exists for finding local state representations of electrons in one-dimensional insulators, no comparably general theory exists in higher dimensions. Here, we introduce a general framework for locating electrons in insulators in two and three dimensions, based on the spectral properties of quantum-mechanical operators that we term Spatial Localizers. This framework naturally extends the notion of Wannier centers to insulators with boundaries, defects, and disorder, which we use to establish a position-space formulation of the bulk-defect correspondence for electronic charge. This framework also yields maximally localized electronic states. As two representative examples, we show that these states reduce to maximally localized Wannier functions in atomic insulators, whereas in Chern insulators they form coherent states that mirror the coherent-state structure of Landau levels in the quantum Hall effect.
/events/209473/matter-seminar-a-spatial-localizer-for-electrons-in-insulators/ 209473 2026-05-08T17:16:45+01:00 2026-05-18T14:00:00+01:00 2026-05-18T15:00:00+01:00 2026-05-08T17:17:55+01:00 Seminar 91ɫ 311, Blackett Building, South Kensington Campus, 91ɫ, London, SW7 2AZ, United Kingdom /assets/website/images/placeholder/events/events-placeholder_3_eventpanel2018_x05.jpg /assets/website/images/placeholder/events/events-placeholder_3_eventpanel2018_x1.jpg /assets/website/images/placeholder/events/events-placeholder_3_eventpanel2018_x2.jpg Blackett Building, South Kensington Campus Open Insights: Functional Genomics Screening Lab Nicola McCarthy, Head of 91ɫ at the Milner Therapeutics Institute will present an introduction to the new Functional Genomics Screening lab and its role within the UK Human Functional Genomics Initiative, offering insights into its capabilities and future impact.
Please join us for the FGX Network seminar with Nicola McCarthy, Head of 91ɫ at the Milner Therapeutics Institute. Nicola will present an introduction to the new Functional Genomics Screening lab and its role within the UK Human Functional Genomics Initiative, offering insights into its capabilities and future impact.

Programme:

2:30pm-2:45pm – Introduction to the AZ-MRC Functional Genomics Screening Lab (Dr Nicola McCarthy, Head of 91ɫ, Milner Therapeutics Institute)

2:50pm-3:10pm – FGSL data presentation (Dr Chun Hao Wong Functional Genomics Screening Laboratory, MTI Lead)

3:15pm-3:30pm – Coffee break

3:30pm-3:40pm – Collaborative funding opportunities available through the FGSL & UK FGx Initiative (Dr Matt Child, Dr Nicola McCarthy)

3:45pm-4:15pm – FGSL project pitch discussion forum (Dr Nicola McCarthy & Dr Chun Hao Wong): https://www.milner.cam.ac.uk/functional-genomics-screening-lab-fgsl/

/events/209336/insights-functional-genomics-screening-lab/ 209336 2026-05-06T16:20:08+01:00 2026-05-18T14:30:00+01:00 2026-05-18T16:15:00+01:00 2026-05-06T16:20:08+01:00 Seminar 91ɫ G47A, Flowers Building, South Kensington Campus, 91ɫ, London, SW7 2AZ, United Kingdom /ImageCropToolT4/imageTool/uploaded-images/adobestock-1249385556_1778079458736_eventpanel2018_x05.jpg /ImageCropToolT4/imageTool/uploaded-images/adobestock-1249385556_1778079458736_eventpanel2018_x1.jpg /ImageCropToolT4/imageTool/uploaded-images/adobestock-1249385556_1778079458736_eventpanel2018_x2.jpg DNA strand Flowers Building, South Kensington Campus Open London Logic Seminar – Frank Wagner (Université Lyon 1) Sylow subgroups in finite-dimensional groups
Title: Sylow subgroups in finite-dimensional groups

Abstract: This is joint work with U. Mindfulness is the awareness that emerges through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally, to the unfolding of experience, moment by moment.”
— Jon Kabat-Zinn, Professor of Medicine Emeritus, University of Massachusetts Medical School, and author of Full Catastrophe Living

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness teaches you to pay attention to the present moment through simple breathing and meditation practices.
